As you all know, aside from being a blogger, I am a VLOGGER! I am part a community called Vlog Nation and I absolutely love using the resources and networking they provide for vloggers around the world. Today, Vlog Nation is hosting a Twitter chat for vloggers to share and connect with on another. Events like this are usually how I meet my online friends and pen pals. I thought I would share my answers with you all here too…
Who was the first person you shared your vlogs with?
Vlogging came naturally into my life. I was vlogging before I knew about the word “vlogging”. My best friend Christine (also known as my twinnie) and I loved making videos together. I’m glad I did because I have all these memories to look back on. My family and friends supported by watching and subscribing over the years. Sometimes I still get embarrassed about Rachel-Pre-Braces and Rachel-Pre-College, but I forget about the embarrassment and embrace the videos. Because of these videos, I can visually see how much I physically changed, hear how much lower my voice got, and remember how far I’ve come from that little high school girl to this almost graduated adult. Take a trip down memory lane with me and watch some of my high school throwbacks in the video playlist below »
What are two of your vlogging goals for 2015?
My first goal is to connect and have at least one vlog friend on every continent. So far, I have at least one friend in Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia. I have yet to meet online friends in South America, Africa, and Antartica. Although I will remove Antartica from my list, unless the penguins there decide to start vlogging and want to connect with me! My second goal is to vlog every single day starting after graduation. I’m excited to get into the groove of things! I graduate on May 20, 2015… so brace yourself for daily vlogs starting from that date. YAY!
What camera do you use to film your vlogs?
I have gone through so many cameras since 2006. My parents love Sony cameras and I’ve used that brand of camera in DSLRs and smaller everyday cameras, but I learned about my love for Canons when I started doing photography with my uncle’s company. Once you go Canon, you never go back. The Canon G7X is on my current wishlist for a new vlog camera.
What’s one marketing tip that you would like to share with other vloggers?
Marketing has its up and downs. Some days it feels like everyone is online and responding to what I put out there and other days (and sometimes weeks) my social media figuratively looks like an abandoned town in Death Valley. My tip is to not be afraid to share. Whether my feeds are busy or not, consistency is key. I can thank my #BeShameless journey for allowing me to experience first hand that consistency truly works wonders.
Besides vlogging, what’s the most time-consuming task when working on your YouTube channel?
In my experience with heavily working with the Internet and technology, I know that anything can be thrown my way. I’m sure fellow vloggers have had those moments where they would process their video from the software (iMovie or Final Cut Pro) and the computer would suddenly take a poop and delete everything. There are also those moments where we would upload a YouTube video and the Internet would crash OUT OF NO WHERE. I feel ya’ll. The struggle is real and time-consuming, but we continue to do it because we love it.
Describe your vlogs in one color?
Turquoise, teal, aquamarine, and every other color in between blue and green are my favorite colors. Turquoise embodies my vlogs, my channel, my blog, and simply my life because of all that it represents and all that it means. Fun Tidbit about Turquoise: Turquoise is perhaps the oldest stone in man’s history. It was the talisman of kings, shamans, and warriors and was known as a symbol of wealth in many ancient cultures. It is representative of the following horoscope signs: Aquarius, Capricorn, Pisces, Sagittarius (Ancient). It is the birth stone for my birth month: December. Turquoise stones are known to give off the following energies: luck, love, protection, and healing. So, if you’re still wondering why turquoise? This color represents my vlogs because I hope that it can be something tranquil and healing to others in their lives. Turquoise protects who I really am as a person and also represents my strength to share my everyday life despite how negative or judgmental people can be online.
What do you enjoy the most about vlogging?
I do it because I love it. I get a kick out of editing and seeing the final result of a video. I also take pride in being about to capture and pull out a selfie stick in a crowd full of people despite how obnoxious and distracting it can look. The best thing about vlogs is being able to go back and watch what kind of food I ate, or watch that time I fell off a skateboard. I can go back to the fun inside jokes with friends or back to that time my little brother was small enough for me to carry and put to sleep just by singing to him.
Before I sign out of this blog, I want to personally thank Vlog Nation for starting a community of people who share the same passion. The articles they provide are very helpful. The website and what they are all about also unites individuals who may have felt alone before. I know I felt alone in vlogging when YouTube was just starting up. Speaking of YouTube, Happy 10th Birthday! Let me know if you enjoyed this post and if you have any ideas for upcoming vlogs.
